Time to Buy!

As I finish off this school year, I’m thinking ahead to next year already, and have spent time considering and looking at curriculum options for next year. There is a huge variety of curricula, and no “one grade” boxed set is going to work for us since my son is all over the place academically. I have to decide what’s best and what will work for us. It can be fun, exciting, and stressful all at once. Most of my things for next year have arrived. Here they are:

 Social Studies Curriculum

Grammar – Kelley Wingate Publications – Grammar Grades 3-4 (not pictured), Flash Kids Language Arts Grade 3, and I will also use Scott Foresman Grade 3 Grammar Book

Spelling – Abeka Spelling & Poetry Grade 3

Reading – Abeka Read & Comprehend Worksheets, and in-depth study of various chapter books

MathSpectrum Math Grade 4, Fraction Activities, Grade 3 by FlashKids- I will supplement these with online worksheets and various math manipulatives

ScienceApologia Zoology 2

Social StudiesDK Presidents Book, Abeka-Our American Heritage, How Our Government Works by Frank Schaffer Publications , State History with Abeka’s My State Notebook and curriculum from statehistory.net

Geography – Various US States Workbooks, and Scholastic Success with Maps Grade 3

Health – Abeka Health, Safety, & Manners Grade 3

Music – Classical Kids CDs (not pictured) and Ready to Read Music by Alfred Publishing Co.

Art Busy Teacher’s Guide Art Lessons, Short Lessons in Art History

Spanish – Visual Link software and Let’s Speak Spanish Books by Hayes School Publishing Co.

Greek & Latin basicsWord Roots, Beginning by The Critical Thinking Company

Bible – Books on Different Aspects of Character Building – Choosing Obedience and Choosing Kindness by Kaye Freeman (I am unsure whether I will do one book a quarter, or one book for every two quarters, I will decide later which books to add if I go with one per semester.)

Cursive handwriting will also be introduced this year.
