Two months in….

02 Sep

Two months in and not a lot of posts. *Sigh* It’s happened again! I guess I should just do this as my beginning of the year post, and never mind the fact we started in July. So, let’s have at it!

Sixth Grade. Middle School. I can’t believe it. It’s kind of scary when you think about it. Pretty soon I’ll have to be worrying about high school transcripts! Imagine that! Let’s survive middle school first, because, quite frankly, it looks like it’s going to be a rocky road.

Here’s our curriculum for the year:

Grammar – Growing with Grammar Level 6 by JacKris Publishing

Writing – Winning with Writing by JacKris Publishing

Spelling and Vocabulary
– Spelling and Vocabulary 6 by A Beka

Reading – Various Books – They usually relate to history in some way, but not always. I plan to throw in a Shakespeare play this year again, as well.

Math – Saxon Algebra 1

– Old World History by A Beka, and The Story of the World I and II (I don’t think I need III this year, but I have it if I do) by Peace Hill Press

Latin/Greek Roots – Word Roots B1 by The Critical Thinking Company

Science – Weather! by Storey Kids and Botany by Apologia (These are for the first half of the year, not sure what we’re doing the second half yet.)

Bible – What We Believe series Volumes 1 and 2 by Apologia

Spanish – Lifepacs by Alpha and Omega, and Spanish Lessons through Homeschool Spanish Academy

Health – Choosing Good Health, Grade 6, by A Beka (Quarter 1)

Art – Meet the Masters, Track…Something (Quarter 2)

Music – Self-Made (yet-to-be made) Composer Study (Quarter 3)

Home Ec type class – Self-Made (yet-to-be made) Will include possible cooking classes, sewing lessons, and other basic home ec skills. Yep, he’s a boy. When I was in school the boys had to take it, and mine will too! I’ve already talked to someone about giving him cooking classes, since he wants to be a chef, and they can teach him all the different “pro” techniques that I just kind of do my own way. (Quarter 4)

Well, I think that’s it. (It? Yeah, I know. A little more than “it.”) We may adjust, if necessary, but so far it looks like this is the plan.

What does your curriculum consist of?
