Did I mention that

05 May

Virginia is GORGEOUS?!! Green. Green. GREEN. Lots of trees. It’s just a beautiful place, and driving it is so much fun! Dealing with the expressway signs isn’t always the easiest thing in the world here in Virginia, but so far I haven’t managed to get TOO lost. Yesterday was an exception though, and even though I was lost I was having FUN because it was just so beautiful to be driving through the area, I didn’t care at the time if I was driving 10 or 20 miles out of the way(I didn’t actually, it ended up circling back around like I thought it would – eventually.)

Day 5, May 5, 2013

Anyway, today we headed out for Jamestown Settlement and our second day of Williamsburg. Jamestown had different areas, which started off with a museum-type exhibit with various artifacts and pieces of information. It was quite interesting to look at the different things, and then from there you move on to the outside stuff, which included a re-creation of a Powhatan village, the fort, and several ships. My son loved looking at the many things available to touch and see, but I was somewhat bothered and annoyed by all the smoke. I spent yesterday smelling like it and then doing laundry last night and I really wasn’t really up for a second dose of that so I tried to stay away from the line of fire -hard to do on a breezy day.

Williamsburg was great. I thought I was going to have to pay for two more full-day tickets for us, but due to my “wonderful” observational skills, I noticed that a three-day ticket was only a few dollars more than what I had paid for our first ticket and asked if we could just upgrade our tickets from before. It took a phone call or two, but she allowed it – and saved me $50! Whew!

At Colonial Williamsburg we were able to see most all of the things we had missed before. My son and I visited the apothecary, the wigmaker, the silversmith, the tailor (I think they actually called it the milliner?), the Blacksmith, the courthouse and the magazine and got a lot of information from the various people working at these places. It really was pretty interesting. We were just towards the end of town when we heard the bell toll 5 though, so sadly enough we missed seeing the gaol and a couple of other things. It’s amazing how all the activities eat up so much time! I really thought we’d fully get through everything, but it just didn’t happen. I’m pleased with the amount of things we did do overall with just the time we have had so far though. The area is just packed with an abundance of things to do and there’s just not enough time to fit it all in.

Tomorrow we’re headed up to the DC area. I’m not fully sure what our plans will be. I was thinking of heading west, but have decided that’s not happening tomorrow because of the extra driving time involved, as well as the fact we might squeeze in a trip to downtown Richmond. We’ll see how our morning goes. We very well may end up heading to Arlington and/or Mt. Vernon later in the afternoon though. It just depends on how it works out, I guess.
